Sergei Rachmaninov, born April 1, 1873. Lush! Evgeny Kissin performs Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davies.
The style is possibly as difficult to define as the English meaning of their name – “Arrebato”, variously translated as “fury”, “something that rises rapidly” or “a wave of emotion”. It’s fair to say that any and all of these describe the music of this ensemble. Arrebato release their second CD “Absolucion” in June 2011….
The late dramatic soprano Elizabeth Connell who died on February 18th, sings Mild und Leise from Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde. She thrilled audiences around the world with the beauty and power of her voice. Her legacy will endure. RIP.
Claudio Monteverdi, born 15 May 1567. This duet from his opera L’Incoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea) is ravishingly sung by soprano Danielle De Niese and counter-tenor Philippe Jarrousky.
This video will surely give you goosebumps – Mahler’s Symphony No 8 , which premiered in Munich on September 12th in 1910. The BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek in collaboration with hundred of voices performs at the Royal Albert Hall on the opening night of The Proms in July 2010.
