Pianist Andreas Boyde performs on Melbourne Digital Concert Hall this week with three works reflecting a tempestuous and passionate time in the lives of young Brahms and Schumann as they find their musical voices whilst learning from the poetic masters. The concert is also live in Melbourne (see below).
Schumann’s ‘Schubert’ Variations and Carnaval are inspired by Schubert waltzes, Brahms’ Scherzo Op. 4 is reminiscent of Chopin’s Scherzo. And yet, both composers instantaneously moulded their unique and unmistakable language, moving away from their models. Three masterpieces by two geniuses.
