The Australian Chamber Orchestra presents Beethoven & Bridgetower the story of two soulmates, a sonata immortalised and a name almost lost to history.
This is the tale of Beethoven’s beloved Kreutzer Sonata, or should we say Bridgetower Sonata. This fascinating story of friendship, passion, immense musical talent and scandal is the heart of the ACO’s brand-new collaboration with Belvoir St Theatre, bringing this epic tale to life on stage, performing Beethoven’s Bridgetower Sonata alongside Leoš Janáček’s First String Quartet – inspired by Leo Tolstoy’s novella The Kreutzer Sonata (1889).
Directed by Belvoir’s Artistic Director Eamon Flack, Beethoven & Bridgetower features a script by Anna Goldsworthy written in collaboration with former U.S. poet laureate Rita Dove.
Beethoven & Bridgetower runs from Tuesday 23 March until Sunday 28 March. Tickets start from $49.
