Ensemble Offspring Drums Up Rhythms Of Change

March 31, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

Free. Registrations required.

Continuing with their Now You Hear Her program, Ensemble Offspring utilises the spaces within World Square to build a social and creative hub. During the day project developments, rehearsals and workshops with a lunch time ‘showing’ of work will be hosted. In the evening, key artists will curate and host longer form programs of diverse music making including live performances, talks, film screenings and recorded music. These free-flowing events will be relaxed and sociable and a chance to listen and learn from some of the most inspiring woman artists in the country! Experience performances and presentations from Eve Klein, Freya Schack Arnott, Claire Edwardes, Chloe Kim and many more in the month long series!

Claire Edwardes teams up with emerging young drummer Chloe Kim to present an evening of percussive rhythms and new works by a smashing line up of Australian female composers including Maria Grenfell, Anne Cawrse and Peggy Polias. The live performances will be followed by a Keychange panel focusing on the issues raised by Catherine Strong in her research of the broader music industry – “Women are…afforded less symbolic and cultural capital than men, a point illustrated through the systematic devaluation of women as both producers and consumers of music” – with panelists including Nardi Simpson (composer/author/singer), Amanda Brown (composer/singer), Emma Dunch (CEO, Sydney Symphony) and Claire Edwardes (percussionist/Artistic Director).
