Sydney University Graduate Choir Sings On

May 2, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Grads are “Singing On”! In their first concert for this year the Sydney University Graduate Choir will perform for the first time at the historic Fort Street High School in Petersham. In a varied program they will sing pieces by Beethoven, Fauré, Saint-Saëns, Brahms and others. including Beethoven’s beautiful but rarely performed Opferlied and Elegisher Gesang, and Brahms’ Geistliches Lied.

The concert also includes a new work by Christopher Bowen for choir and ensemble orchestra. A Fragment of Sappho is a paean to love based on the tale of Helen of Troy, and was commissioned by a distinguished Sydney surgeon as a gift to his wife on the occasion of a special wedding anniversary. This performance will be the premiere of this powerful and touching composition.

The choir will be accompanied, in various combinations, by piano, string quartet, harp, oboe and horn.

Amy Moore once again joins as soprano soloist. Amy is an accomplished soloist whose broad repertoire includes a particular focus on baroque and contemporary music.

NSW Discover vouchers are accepted for this concert. Please present your voucher at the door to claim your $25 saving. Book in advance or buy at the door.
