Jayson Gilham Releases Debut Album: Bach I Schubert I Chopin

A debut album for Jayson Gilham.

A debut album for Jayson Gilham.

Australian pianist Jayson Gilham has released his debut album Bach | Schubert | Chopin for ABC Classics.

Gilham has had a dazzling career since his early days as a teenage piano student traveling 500 km in outback Queensland to attend weekly piano lessons. Now just 30 years old, Gilham moved to London in 2007 after graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He has won a string of international piano competitions, amongst them, the 2014 Montreal International Music Competition. He has performed in the major houses of the world, including the Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, the Louvre Auditorium in Paris, and with ensembles which include the London Philharmonic, Nashville Symphony and English Chamber Orchestras.

Bach | Schubert | Chopin presents music of unparalleled beauty, vitality and joy by three masters of keyboard writing. The works highlight the versatility and excellence of Gilham’s musicianship. The album opens with the youthful exuberance of Bach’s Toccata in C minor, followed by Schubert’s lyrical A major sonata and two works by Chopin – the Prelude in C# minor and the Sonata in B minor, composed just five years before Chopin died.

The album was recorded at the Reitstadel in Neumarkt, Germany with renowned Tonmeister Andreas Neubronner (Murray Perahia, Arcadi Volodos, Khatia Buniatishvili). The Australian launch tour for the album will include recital performances in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and concerto performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy, and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Tate.

Jayson Gilham’s debut album Bach | Schubert | Chopin will be available on ABC Classics, CD and Digital (ABC 481 2682) on October 10, 2016.

His album launch tour comes to Sydney in October. Click here for more.
