World Choir Games 2020 – Entries Still Open For Amateur Choirs

Entries are open for the World Choir Games, celebrating its 20th anniversary in July 2020 in the host cities of Antwerp and Ghent in the province of Flanders, Belgium.

Considered the Olympic Games of Choral Music, the World Choir Games will take place from 5-15 July 2020 in Flanders, Belgium.
Founded 20 years ago, the World Choir Games premiered in Linz, Austria. It is the largest international choir competition in the world.

By the end of the early booking period in mid-September of this year, 355 choirs from 57 nations had already registered.

The idea behind the World Choir Games is based on the Olympic ideals – to bring together people and nations connected by singing in a fair and peaceful competition. The World Choir Games, which take place every two years on different continents, are organized for amateur choirs from all over the world, no matter which country they come from, which musical genres they represent or which artistic ambitions they have. They sing together and understand each other in their common language, music.

Australia will again be represented in large numbers at the World Choir Games 2020 with six Australian choirs: Methodist Ladies’ College Chorale, Methodist Ladies’ College Barbershop (Claremont), Frankston Ladies Choir (Frankston), Platinum Vocal Studio (Burwood), Divine Divas of Sunbury, and Adelaide Chamber Singers.

The World Choir Games are not only about competition, but also about learning in advisory rounds, individual coaching and workshops with international choral experts. It is about standing on stage with like-minded choirs from all over the world in international friendship concerts and experiencing the enthusiasm of singing together. Participation alone is important and the greatest honor.

Held every 2 years since the beginning of the World Choir Games in 2000, former hosts have been the Republic of Korea (Busan), the Federal Republic of Germany (Bremen), the People’s Republic of China (Xiamen and Shaoxing), the Republic of Austria (Linz and Graz), the United States of America (Cincinnati), the Republic of Latvia (Riga), the Russian Federation (Sochi) and South Africa (Tshwane).

Amateur choirs from Europe and around the world can still register for the event until December 2, 2019

Flanders has three official languages and a variety of local dialects, placing Belgium as a great crossroads of cultures and a perfect venue for the largest international choir competition in the world. As home to more than 1,000 choirs with over 32,000 active singers, the North Belgian region has a great local choir landscape to welcome thousands of participants from all over the world.

The World Choir Games are organised by INTERKULTUR, the world’s leading initiator and organizer of international choir competitions.
