New Release ‘Schumann Cello’ On Move Records

Cellist Zoe Knighton pianist Amir Farid have a released a new CD, Schumann Cello on the Move label. The 23-track CD features three collection by Clara Schumann and two by Robert Schumann.

This is the sixth recording collaboration by Knighton and Farid. Zoe Knighton is a founding member of Flinders Quartet and a passionate pedagogue; Farid is a distinguished soloist and accompanist. Both have a substantial discography on the Move label.

The two Schumanns, Robert and Clara, were the most celebrated music couple of the 19th
century. They met as children when Robert was having piano lessons with Clara’s father, Friedrich
Wieck. Wieck named his daughter “Clara”, meaning “brilliance”, and put everything into raising a
virtuoso pianist. They married one day before her 21st birthday, together having eight children.
Before their marriage she was the more famous performer. She nurtured Robert’s composition
and promoted him. Contrary to common belief, Clara did not abandon composition when she
married Robert. The two of them composed side-by-side, sometimes publishing songs together,
without specific attribution.
