There is possibly no-one better to conduct the music of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli than the man who founded the ensemble called the Gabrieli Consort.
Paul McCreesh founded the Gabrieli Consort and Players, of which he remains the Artistic Director, in 1982. Since then, he has earned a reputation as one of the finest conductors of choral music, opera and orchestral music around the world, garnering numerous awards for his recordings.
In Sydney he will conduct the joint forces of the choirs of St James’, King Street and St Mary’s Cathedral, together with some of the nation’s finest brass players, Australian Baroque Brass, in their continuing exploration of Venetian music.
The centrepiece of this concert will be a performance of Paul McCreesh’s sumptuous reconstruction of a 16th century coronation mass in St Mark’s Basilica.
