‘Bears With Guns’ This Weekend – Not As Dangerous As It Sounds

When:  On 17-Nov-12, at 8 pm
Where:  The Standard, Level 3, 383 Bourke St, Surry Hills, 2010.

‘The Bears with Guns’ describe their music as “an enthralling mix of blissed-out folk tunes, belted out with a wondrous display of gusto and soul.”
Their music brings together a unique blend of folk, alternative rock, and roots, with a creative mix of instruments like the cajon, djembe, mandolin and ukulele, topped off with warm vocals.
Four part-time musicians from Parkes New South Wales – Rob, Gus, Drew, and Ryan – moved to Sydney on full-time study, busking and playing gigs in their spare time. Drummer, Gus, unable to cart a drum kit along would sling a djembe or cajon over his shoulder to make busking expeditions that bit more manageable. Around this time the four-piece ensemble felt their sound wasn’t quite complete and keyboard virtuoso Lachlan joined their ranks.
Picked up by Highway 125, they were thrust into the local band scene. A regular at Sydney haunts the Bears, regularly playing The Vanguard, The Beach Road, FBI Social, and The Gaelic Club. They’ve played in Byron Bay, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Ballarat, and country NSW. THe Bears have toured New Zealand as well, featuring in the 100% Pure New Zealand campaign.
