Rachel Bate 2010 Marianne Mathy scholarship winner with Lisa Gasteen

A gathering of stellar performers from the opera world gather on June 30th in a concert to benefit flood victims in Japan. Under the auspices of the Music and Opera Singers Trust (MOST), soprano Lisa Gasteen AO, tenor Glenn Winslade and bass Conal Coad, each of whom have performed in the opera houses of the world, will share the stage with the emerging talent of Rachel Bate, Nicole Car, Sam Dundas and Sam Roberts- Smith under the musical direction of Andrew Greene.

The artistes are donating their talent to raise funds for the Japanese people affected by the devastating events in a gesture of appreciation for Dr Haruhisa Honda who has, over a number of years, generously supported the careers of many Australian singers through his organisation The International Foundation for Arts and Culture (IFAC).

MOST conducts a number of singing competitions in Sydney including the IFAC Australian Singing Competition and The Opera Awards. Some of the singers you’ll hear have been finalists in these competitions.

Also performing will be Ensemble Consonant, led by pianist Eun-Jung Byun. A newly-formed ensemble, they’re performing  ‘Rigoletto Fantasie’ Op.38 arranged for violin, marimba and piano. They were the guest artistes at the 2010 IFAC Australian Singing Competition, and reportedly brought the house down. Check them out on http://youtu.be/xdc6tZYRgN0
