The Metropolitan Orchestra performs Beethoven’s mighty Symphony No 5, alongside other breathtaking orchestral repertoire which includes Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Mozart’s magnificent Symphony Number 41, Jupiter.

Conducting the orchestra will be Sydney-born Alexander Negrin who is making his first appearance in the city of his birth since his debut at the Sydney Opera House 31 years ago. Then, he conducted Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the tender age of only nine to become one of the youngest ever to conduct a symphony orchestra.

Since then, he has performed in Europe, working with greats like Vladimir Ashkenazy at the Czech Philharmonic in Prague and Franz-Paul Decker and winning the prestigious Karl Böhm Prize. He was appointed conductor at the opera house in Baden-Baden, a position he occupied for six years whilst fulfilling concert engagements throughout Europe.

Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony has been chosen as a special highlight in homage to Negrin’s Opera House debut.
