The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) will end the year with a series of new beginnings including a world premiere from Australian pop music icon Heather Shannon. This work will join Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto featuring Australian soloist Giuseppe Zangari in his first performance with TMO and Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams. Beethoven’s exhilarating Symphony No 3 ‘Eroica’, which many consider as the start of a new era in music, will close TMO’s ninth season.
ARIA Award winner Heather Shannon has toured the world as the lead writer and piano/keyboardist with Australian indie rock band The Jezebels. Graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Shannon is another composition finalist showcased in TMO’s inaugural Composer Development program from 2016. This piece will reveal Shannon’s immense talents as an exceptional orchestral composer.
Rodrigo’s best-known work established his reputation as one of the most significant Spanish composers of the twentieth century. Australian soloist Giuseppe Zangari joins TMO and Conductor Williams for the first time to perform this magnificent guitar concerto.
Beethoven’s third symphony is considered a turning point in the history of music and a significant change in Beethoven’s phenomenal career.
A pop-up café will be open for pre-concert and interval for light snacks and refreshments.
