Rossini’s masterpiece The Thieving Magpie returns to La Scala in a new production, 200 years after its debut there in 1817.

Filmed in a live performance from Teatro alla Scala, Milan on 18 Apr 2017, Academy Award©-winner Gabriele Salvatores (Mediterraneo) directs the production which tells the tale of the servant Ninetta (debuting soprano Rosa Feola), who’s wrongly accused of theft. Riccardo Chailly conducts a wonderful cast comprising the cream of the new generation of Rossian bel canto which includes tenor Edgardo Rocha, basses Alex Esposito and Paolo Bordogna, who thrilled Sydney audiences with his recent buffo roles,  as well as mezzo-soprano Teresa Iervolino and the expert canto of  bass Michele Pertusi.
