UNSW’s choir, the Collegium Musicum Choir performs Handel’s Messiah in its inaugural concert of the 2016 season, conducted by choral director Sonia Maddock and accompanied by an orchestra which includes core members of the Australia Ensemble @UNSW.
The 80-voice ensemble performs this pillar of the choral repertoire with its breathtaking arias and choruses, including the immortal Hallelujah chorus and the mighty Amen.
The soloists are soprano Sarah Ampil, alto Charlotte Merz, tenor Richard Butler and bass David Greco. Dene Olding is concertmaster of the Collegium Musicum Orchestra.
Founded in 1975 by Professor Roger Covell and Dr Patricia Brown, the Collegium Musicum Choir has a long tradition of performing choral-orchestral music and Christmas programs at UNSW to a semi-professional standard. The choir’s membership includes undergraduate students from across the university, as well as postgraduates,
staff and members of the community – all are welcome.
