Requiem for the Fallen – An ANZAC Centenary Concert
The Schola of St Stephen’s Cathedral, Brisbane, travel to Sydney to feature in Requiem for the Fallen, a special ANZAC centenary concert.
Under the direction of James Goldrick, this eight-voice chamber choir will sing Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Requiem, Allegri’s Miserere and the Australian premiere of Matthew Martin’s Stabat Mater among other unaccompanied choral works specially chosen to reflect the solemnity of the centenary.
The choir will sing a new arrangement of Allegri’s Miserere which harks back to authentic early versions of the legendary work. Also on the program is a new work to Australia from one of the UK’s leading composers of choral music, Matthew Martin and his setting of the Stabat Mater, regarded as one of the seven greatest Latin hymns of all time. The choir has performed Victoria’s expansive Requiem on previous occasions to great acclaim in Brisbane.
The Church of Holy Name Wahroonga was formerly a Dominican Priory. Its barrel-vaulted soaring ceiling was designed to amplify the sound of the unaccompanied human voice. It’s famous acoustic will showcase the sound of this renowned choir.
