The Metropolitan Orchestra Performs Septets

The principal players of The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) will celebrate two extraordinary masterworks for septet featuring the clarinet, bassoon, French horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass, at the charming and ornate surrounds of the freshly refurbished Leichhardt Town Hall

Franz Berwald’s Grand Septet in B flat major will be an inventive and attractive start to this event. Unfortunately, Berwald was not recognised as a success until long after his death, but is now considered one of Sweden’s truly great composers. Unlike Berwald’s work, Beethoven’s resolutely cheerful and optimistic Septet in E flat major is one of his most successful and popular works even though it was written during a period of great personal anguish. Today, Beethoven’s work is considered to be of the finest septets ever written. These two septets will brighten your winter Sunday afternoon in a cheerful, energetic and beautifully presented performance featuring some of TMO’s finest musicians.
