The Metropolitan Orchestra’s ‘String Serenade’

The string players of The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) led by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams presents a concert which features a unique selection of works including a rarely seen trio of viola soloists, a world premiere titled Cellar Door, plus Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings.
A trio of viola players will perform David Popper’s Requiem, perhaps his most moving work. Composed in 1892 this gorgeous piece is both sorrowful and melancholy. Originally written for three cellos, the work has been re-orchestrated for three violas and string orchestra for this sublime performance. The world premiere of Australian composer Mark Grandison’s Cellar Door will be performed for the first time in its entirety by TMO’s string section. Originally created for the eight cellos of The Metropolitan Orchestra back in 2016, this newly completed work for string orchestra features eight movements of musical delight.
The evening will come to a melodious pinnacle with Antonín Dvořák’s most popular work, his Serenade for Strings in E. Composed in just two weeks during a creative spell in 1875, this work will deliver a rich and fulfilling digestif to what promises to be a fulfilling and sumptuous musical banquet.
