Rutter And Tedeschi In Concert Live And Online
May 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm
Flautist Jane Rutter and pianist Simon Tedeschi appear in concert, live and online. The live performance at midday on 18 May will be followed by the digital version at 7 pm (AEST) the same day with availability for 72 hours on Australian Digital Concert Hall.
The duo will perform music by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Schumann and Gershwin. This concert coincides with the launch of Simon’s first book Fugitive, a work using Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives to inspire meditation on music, poetry, memory and literature.
Included in the program are Tchaikovsky’s Mélodie from Souvenir d’un Lieu Cher which inspired the song These Are the Things I Love, arrangements of Gershwin’s songs, Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives, The Knights’ Dance from his Romeo & Juliet Suite, Stravinsky’s Danse Russe from Petrushka and Schumann’s Romances Op. 94.
“Deploring the war on Ukraine waged by Putin’s Russia, we remain steadfast in presenting a program close to our hearts. Much Russian music is core to the classical musicians’ staple, and in this instance we proceed with the repertoire, our hearts heavy as we observe the suffering of innocent people. The Russian composers we play were great international artists and musical peace makers. Prokoviev is considered Ukrainian. Tchaikovsky had Kossack / Ukrainian roots, and drew inspiration from Ukrainian folk music. We hope you enjoy this lovely programme, knowing our feelings on this important issue.” – Simon Tedeschi and Jane Rutter
