AVÉ – Australian Vocal Ensemble ‘Tumbling Like Stars’
August 29, 2022 @ 7:30 pm
AVÉ – Australian Vocal Ensemble presents Tumbling Like Stars, featuring world premiere performances from AVÉ’s David Malouf 12 piece song cycle showcasing Australia’s finest contemporary composers, alongside new arrangements of Renaissance and Baroque greats Bach, Handel and Tomás Luis de Victoria.
The ensemble comprises multi-platinum, 5 x ARIA Award winning soprano and artistic director of the ensemble, Katie Noonan with mezzo-soprano Fiona Campbell, tenor Andrew Goodwin and bass-baritone Andrew O’Connor, in their premiere Sydney performance on Gadigal Country. It is an elite chamber vocal ensemble of international excellence but one that is warm and welcoming to all. They will champion new Australian works on every tour, engage with our First Nations Communities at every concert and engage with local community choirs as touring continues. Already Noonan has commissioned works from Richard Tognetti, Iain Grandage, Stephen Leek, David Hirschfelder, Connor D’Netto, Thomas Green, Alice Humphries, Zac Hurren, Anne Cawrse, Jessica Wells and Robert Davidson and the proof is in the numbers – 50% are Queensland composers, 30% are female and 100% are Australian.
Katie Noonan explains, “For years I have been dreaming of singing in an a capella ensemble like AVÉ. Surrounded by these three truly extraordinary artists is challenging and inspiring, and I believe we’re creating a special and unique sound world that I hope will bring succour and joy. Championing and celebrating Australian sounds and stories continues to be my primary focus as a creator, and I am thrilled that AVÉ is coming to life at a time when we need the panacea of music more than ever.”
