A Double-Bill of Contemporary Masterpieces: ‘His Music Burns’ From Sydney Chamber Opera
Sydney Chamber Opera is joined by Sydney Theatre Company resident director Sarah Giles to present His Music Burns a double bill of contemporary masterpieces performed in Australia for the very first time, presented by the Sydney Festival.
In the double-bill are George Benjamin’s Into the Little Hill with soprano Ellen Winhall, mezzo-soprano Emily Edmonds and an ensemble of 15 instruments, followed by György Kurtág’s settings of absurdist Beckett in …pas à pas – nulle part…sung by baritone Mitchell Riley with an ensemble of string trio and percussion.
Renowned playwright Martin Crimp warps the Pied Piper legend into a dark political tragedy, as George Benjamin’s dangerously beautiful score for Into the Little Hill lures the audience into a maze of sound and story. György Kurtág’s musical meditation …pas à pas –nulle part…, transforms a single virtuosic performer into a whirlwind of energy.
Performed in English with French and English surtitles
