A New Chief Conductor for The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, reputedly the world’s best, has announced that the Milan born Daniele Gatti will take up the position of chief conductor from 2016.
Mariss Jansons, the conductor who brought the RCO to Sydney on its inaugural visit last year, marks a decade in the role this year.
Gatti has served as chief conductor of the Zurich Opera, as principal conductor of the Orchestra Dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, as music director of the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Orchestre National de France and as principal guest conductor of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. He has also conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera and at the Bayreuth Festival.
