Alice Giles In Musica Viva Sessions
Musica Viva Sessions presents unique music in unexpected spaces, inviting you to outside the ordinary and enter a series of intimate musical encounters in unexpected settings all over Sydney.
The 2019 season opens on 28 August with a chance to explore the Sydney Jewish Museum, then immerse yourself in the electro-acoustic brilliance of harpist Alice Giles AM.
Grab a pre-concert drink at 6:30pm or arrive from 5.30pm to view the Museum’s exhibitions, including the celebratory exploration of music in Jewish life – ‘Jukebox Jewbox! A Century on Shellac and Vinyl’.
Alice Giles will present an intimate solo recital of her favourite works, performed on her electro-acoustic harp. Widely acclaimed as one of the world’s leading harpists, her extraordinary solo career has taken her from the great concert stages of London and New York to the chilled solitude of Mawson Station, Antarctica.
Established in 1992, the Sydney Jewish Museum is an institution that gives history a voice through collecting and preserving historic objects, commemorating and educating, with a mission to challenge perceptions of morality, social justice, democracy and human rights. ‘Musica Viva Sessions is an opportunity to get to know some of Australia’s best performers, and the music they love to play, up close and personal,’ says Katherine Kemp, Director of Concerts & Communities at Musica Viva.
Each Session takes on a fresh new form as a constantly changing line-up of musicians takes you into remarkable and inspiring spaces, creating one-night-only chamber music encounters that blend music, place, passion and knowledge.
