Andrew Blanch Guitar Recital
Winner of the Melbourne International Guitar Competition 2016, Andrew Blanch is performing soon in Sydney during the Classical Guitar Festival, Sydney and as part of an extensive tour of Autralia and New Zealand.
Andrew Blanch is a gifted young Australian musician taking his place on the international music stage. The Sydney-based guitarist has won major prizes in ten music competitions both nationally and internationally, including First Prize at the Melbourne International Guitar Competition in 2016.
His concert in Sydney is curated by him and entitled From Latin America and Beyond. Its first half is dedicated exclusively to South American music, while the second half goes ‘beyond’ with works by JS Bach, Ross Edwards, and Francisco Tarrega. The concert includes classical guitar favourites, along with some new works that are “likely to be entirely new to even hardcore classical guitar aficionados – but of striking beauty nonetheless” says Blanch.
Blanch’s debut solo CD Spanish Guitar Music was released in December 2015 to international acclaim, with the USA’s Soundboard Magazine declaring: “This is one of the best debut albums I have ever heard”.
His upcoming concerts in the coming months include concert venues such as the Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera House (as part of the Classical Guitar Festival Sydney), Melba Hall in Melbourne (as part of the Melbourne International Guitar Festival), as well as smaller and very intimate house concerts.
Andrew Blanch performed in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House in 2010 as part of the ‘Encore Series’ which showcases a selection of the best HSC music performances. Seven years later he returns as a fully fledged soloist delivering his own full solo recital in the intimate acoustic of the Utzon Room.
Blanch is recently returned from six years living and studying in Canberra, where he gained a Bachelor of Music with first-class honours from the Australian National University under the tutelage of Timothy Kain, after which he undertook a short stint in Paris. He currently lives in Sydney.
