Australian World Orchestra Returns With A World Premiere
The musicians of the Australian World Orchestra – 94 of Australia’s finest who work in orchestras in Australia and around the world – will return home for the fifth anniversary season of the Australian World Orchestra.
The musicians of the Australian World Orchestra play in the world’s greatest orchestras both here and overseas, from the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, the Chicago and London Symphony orchestras to our own wonderful state ensembles.
Over two nights, these musicians will come together to perform two programs of music by Dvořák, Ravel, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and the premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin’s Concerto for 8 Double Basses and Orchestra The Witching Hour.
Conducted by the AWO’s Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Alexander Briger, the first concert on September 28 includes Ravel’s orchestral tour de force Boléro, the world-premiere of Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin’s The Witching Hour Concerto for 8 Double Basses (commissioned by AWO featuring the extraordinary AWO Double Bass section) and Tchaikovsky’s powerful and romantic Symphony No 5.
Making his AWO conducting debut on September 29, will be Australian-born conductor and violinist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Stanley Dodds, who will direct Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 and Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 “From the New World”.
