Avan Yu wins the 2012 Sydney International Piano Competition
Avan Yu, the 24 year old Hong Kong born Canadian entrant has won the 2012 Sydney International Piano Competition.
Yu has earned a sweep of prizes which include recording contracts with ABC Classics and Naxos, a major return tour in Australia, the opportunity to perform at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr in 2013, the Bochum Festival in 2014 and to give the world premiere in 2014 with the Sydney Youth Orchestra of a new piano concerto by Gerard Brophy.
Avan Yu also won several other prizes for his renditions of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Haydn, 19th/20th music, Chamber Music and Romantic music.
An experienced performer on stage and on radio and competition winner, Avan Yu will make his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam later this year. He has already made appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Salle Cortot in Paris and the Berlin Philharmonie and with the Vancouver Symphony with Music Director Bramwell Tovey conducting, the Dresden Philharmonie with Rafael Fruehbeck de Burgos, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra with Pinchas Zukerman.
Avan Yu will perform at the City Recital Hall, Angel Place, 12th August, 2012 at 2.30pm.
