Bach Cantatas At St James’
In their continuing series of presenting JS Bach’s cantatas in a liturgical setting, the Choir of St James’ with BachBand@St James’ directed by Warren Trevelyan-Jones performs Schauet doch und sehet, BWV 46.
Composed in Leipzig in 1723, in six movements with tenor, bass and alto soloists and chorus, this cantata for the Tenth Sunday after Trinity is an example of the Baroque master’s complex compositional style, with unusual scoring, wild dissonances and uncompromising fugues.
Admission is free.
