Basically Beethoven Between Friends
Selby & Friends chamber music series will tour again in early May with an all-Beethoven program performed by three remarkable musicians whose shared vision, passion and skill wowed audiences when they performed together in 2013.
Pianist Kathryn Selby’s guest artists for this Beethoven immersion will be violinist Susie Park and cellist Timo-Veikko (Tipi) Valve.
Kathryn Selby AM, pianist, founder and Artistic Director of Selby & Friends described the collaboration as a ‘programming coup, shined on by the gods of timing, to be able to engage both Susie and Tipi for a concert of repertoire by the great master of chamber music!’
“It is deeply rewarding to bury oneself in works that are milestones in Beethoven’s composing career. To explore his growth and development through these masterworks with like-minded colleagues makes this a concert to feed the soul of both the performers and the audience alike!”
Timo-Veikko “Tipi” Valve is currently the Principal Cellist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, a position he has held since 2006. Valve regularly performs as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra leader with both modern and period instruments in Europe, Asia, Australia and the US. Valve studied at the Sibelius Academy in his hometown of Helsinki and at the Edsberg Music Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, focusing on solo performance and chamber music in both institutions.
Susie Park has gained worldwide recognition for her searing emotive range and dynamic stage presence. A former member of the Eroica Trio, Park has appeared as soloist with the Vienna Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and major Australian and New Zealand orchestras.
Kathryn Selby AM is considered one of Australia’s finest chamber musicians. With Selby & Friends now in its eighth season, Selby, awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2013 for her service to Australian music, is a formidable musician and concert programmer. She is the Artistic Director or A Little Lunch Music at City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney and the founder of a new initiative involving young students and chamber music. She is in demand as a teacher, performer and entrepreneur.
The all-Beethoven program is part of a recording collaboration between Selby & Friends and ABC Classic FM.
