Bel A Cappella’s Sun Dogs Explores New Vocal Territory Amidst Some Classics
Celebrating Anthony Pasquill’s 10th year as Artistic and Musical Director, Bel a cappella will present James MacMillan’s Sun-Dogs an extraordinary work by the Scottish composer (b 1959) which abounds in striking vocal effects: rapid chanting doubling the held notes of a simple four-part choral progression, deep breathing, whistling, free-floating heterophony and ‘stage whispered’ toneless rhythmic chanting. Also in the programme, classics by Mendelssohn, Mahler and J S Bach
The programme: Obriu-me-els llavis, Senyor – Vivancos/ Psalm 23: Richte mich, Gott – Mendelssohn/ Urlicht (Das Knaben Wunderhorn) – Mahler/ Lobet den Herrn – J SBach / Sun-Dogs – MacMillan /Raua Needmine (Curse Upon Iron) – Tormis
