Brisbane Baroque Announces 2015 Programme
Book your flights to Brisbane because from April 10th – 18th, Brisbane will be seeped in the music of the Baroque with the relocation of Hobart’s Baroque festival to the more northern state capital, in the inaugural Brisbane Baroque Festival.
The highlight of the festival is Handel’s three act opera Faramondo, his late masterpiece, presented in collaboration with the Göttingen International Handel Festival which received a concert performance in Geneva in 2009, was recorded for CD, and was fully staged in Göttingen in 2014.
For the Brisbane festival, the production will be re-staged by Glasgow-born, Australian trained director Paul Curran. Featuring an international cast including singers from Ireland, the Ukraine, the United States, Great Britain and the Netherlands, Curran has given the 16th century tale a more contemporary twist.
Also in the line-up, Purcells’ Dido and Aeneas, Biber’s Rosary Sonatas for violin and continuo and the sacred and secular music of Bach. There will also be a series of recitals through the day and evening at Brisbane’s City Hall.
Performers at the festival include the Orchestra of the Antipodes, violinist Julia Fredersdorff, harspichordist Donald Nicolson,gambist Laura Vaughan, organist Richard Gowers and conductors Erin Helyard and Oliver Gooch.
