Cecilia Bartoli Sings Vivaldi Arias
Cecilia Bartoli presents a brand new album of arias by Antonio Vivaldi, two decades after her ground-breaking ‘Vivaldi Album’, which sold over 700k copies.
On this latest Decca album simply titled Antonio Vivaldi, Bartoli is joined by Bartoli is joined by French baroque experts Ensemble Matheus conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi.
The original Vivaldi Album was a seminal event, launching a substantial revival of Vivaldi’s long dismissed operas. It set a standard for classical concept albums and paved the way for similarly trailblazing releases, including the Italian arias of Christoph Willibald Gluck, the legendary castrati (on the album ‘Sacrificium’) and Bartoli’s personal 19th-century hero, the mezzo-soprano Maria Malibran.
In the 20 years since that recording, Cecilia Bartoli has recorded little additional music by Vivaldi, making her return to this composer with a new album a true event.
