Chris Cartner Plays Beethoven And Brahms
Pianist Chris Cartner performs two of the most significant sonatas from the solo piano repertoire – Beethoven’s Appassionata and Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 5 in two Sydney recitals.
Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57, Appassionata is a work which sums up the depth of his personality: a world-changing sonata of humanity, rage, love and deep emotional impact.
Brahms’ F minor piano sonata is a ‘symphony for the piano’ containing arguably some of the greatest melodic material of the 19th Century. From its devastating opening, through a profoundly beautiful second movement and a wild ‘scherzo’, the finale is almost cinematic in scope. The sonata remains one of the highlights of the entire piano repertoire.
As always, complimentary drinks will follow these two concerts.
