Christ Church St Laurence Pre-Tour Concert
Very soon, The Choir of Christ Church St Laurence under the direction of Dr Neil McEwen takes off on its tour to Europe where they will perform in churches around England, at the Royal Chapel in Brussels and in Paris at Saint-Louis-en-l’Île and Notre Dame Cathedral. If you’re in the area at the time and would like to attend any of these events, further details are available from the parish.
The choir will be singing mostly for church services as well as giving three concerts. Before they leave, the choir will be presenting their concert programme for audiences in Sydney.
Entry is by ‘note donation’ – and the performance will be preceded, at 2pm, by the Parish’s final monthly Organ Recital for the year, given by the David Drury.
The Choir of Christ Church St Laurence, Sydney, is one of the oldest continuing choral groups in Australia and was founded shortly after the consecration of the church in 1845. It performs an extensive repertoire which spans over a thousand years and incorporates music from Gregorian chant of the 10th century through to the works of 21st century composers. The Choir sings every Sunday at the 10.30am High Mass and again at the 6.30pm Evensong which uses the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Music is also provided for all major festivals and feasts throughout the church’s calendar. Apart from this commitment to liturgical worship the Choir regularly gives concerts, is frequently heard on national radio and has a number of recordings to its credit.
