Christmas Musings: Amarcord sing ‘Es ist ein Ros Entsprungen’
A week into December and there is an abundance of music that we hear but once a year. Mercifully in some cases, but in others, an all too infrequent excuse to indulge in some of the most beautiful works ever composed.
Over the next few weeks we’ll bring you some of the rarely heard classics of the Christmas season.
To start, here is the German a capella ensemble Amarcord, based in Leipzig, founded in 1992 and comprising former members of the Thomanerchor. They sing the carol Es ist ein Ros Entsprungen which dates from 1599, harmonised in 1609 by Michael Praetorius.
