Dame Kiri To Tour in 2014
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the most beloved voices of our era performs in Sydney next year. This evening will be an opportunity to hear the lyrical beauty of her voice and the sublime artistry which have made her one of the world’s greatest singers.
The tour celebrates her 70th Birthday and she will perform her own personal selection of operatic favourites, accompanied by renowned New Zealand pianist Terence Dennis her long time collaborator, performer and academic.
With a career spanning over 40 years, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has become one of the most famous and respected sopranos of all time, with an outstanding presence in opera, in recital and on disc. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to opera by the Queen in 1982, appointed an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia in 1990 for services to the arts, particularly opera, and to the community, and in 1995, Te Kanawa was appointed to the Order of New Zealand. She has received honorary degrees from several universities in the UK amongst them, Cambridge, Durham and Oxford as well as the Universities of Chicago, Auckland, and Waikato. She received a lifetime achievement award from the British Recording Industry and as New Zealander of the Year in 2012.
