Dedication Concert Celebrates Restoration Of Christ Church St Laurence
One of Sydney’s oldest and most historic buildings, Christ Church St Laurence, has undergone complete restoration in 2019 that reinstates a great deal of the building’s Victorian detail, as well as several contemporary innovations.
This Dedication concert celebrates the completion of these building works. The Choir of Christ Church St Laurence and the Muffat Collective, both directed by Sam Allchurch, will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, the Charpentier Te Deum and ‘Lift up your heads’ from Handel’s Messiah (as sung at the Dedication in 1845).
Constructed of local sandstone, Christ Church St Laurence was completed under the supervision of parishioner Edmund Blacket, who designed many other significant Sydney buildings including St Andrews Cathedral and the Great Hall at the University of Sydney. The church was consecrated on 10 September 1845 and its choir, one of the oldest continuing choral groups in Australia, was founded shortly afterwards.
Seating is unrestricted and accessible entry is available.
Tickets $45 and $35, available at the door or from TryBooking.
