Duo Deconet Premieres Australian and Latin American Works
Duo Deconet presents City Suite, an evening of contemporary music and short films exploring urban life and spaces, inspired by the poetry of Jacqueline Buswell. Highlights of the concert will include world premieres by Elena-Kats Chernin, Spain’s Jorge Grundman and Peru’s Sadel Cuentas. there will also be Australian premieres of music by composers from Mexico, Uruguay, Cuba and Venezuela.
Comprising violinist Henry Avila and pianist Irma Enriquez, Duo Deconet champions the music of a new generation of established living Latin American composers in the Asia-Pacific region. Developing creative and artistic collaborations with these composers, Duo Deconet regularly premieres their works.
The duo met in 2008 when they participated in concerts of contemporary Latin American Chamber Music. A constant and shared interest to promote their national musical heritage has led them to include some of the most important Latin American composers in their classical repertoire. The contemporary and eclectic repertoire performed by Duo Deconet, includes 20th and 21st century repertoire from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Mongolia, Panama, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Duo Deconet has recently collaborated with Australian composers like Daniel Rojas, Margaret Brandman and Elena Kats-Chernin. Duo Deconet is constantly researching for collaborations with musicologist and composers around the world.
Increasingly successful over the past 8 years t he duo has spent time researching Australian music containing some elements of Latin-American music. The new Ibero-American and Australian repertoire, commissioned works, collaborations and concerts have led them to expand their projects.
In Sydney they have performed constant premieres at Roxy Theatre, at Paddington Uniting Church, at Mosman Art Gallery, Duffy Music Centre and in The Zenith Theatre. In Penrith at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
In Melbourne, they have performed at the BMW Edge, Federation Square 2010. In 2011 Duo Deconet performed at the Melba Hall-University of Victoria, presented by Dr. Melanie Plesch, the Embassy of Argentina and the Embassy of Mexico.
In Canberra they have performed at the National Multicultural Festivals, Flip Art Canberra 100, and the Ninth Biennial Conference of the Association of Iberian & Latin American Studies of Australasia (ANU-AILASA) 2010. In 2013, they presented the Música Neo- típica by C. Salomon at the Wesley Music Centre.
