Easter Songs From Nadia Piave And Friends: Piccolo Miracoli!

Piccolo

Soprano Nadia Piave and her friends accordionist extraordinaire Ross Maio and guitar whizz Gino Pengue present Piccoli Miracoli! a parade of songs for Easter to sweep you away…

You’ll hear songs by Charles Trenet, Jacques Brel, Gino Paoli, Pino Daniele, Leoncavallo, plus theme songs from some magical and miraculous Italian movies, and more…

Says Nadia “Earlier this year I saw a beautiful little Italian film, Si Accettano Miracoli (Miracles Accepted). A lovely, magical film in the vein of Il Postino, Cinema Paradiso and the gorgeous Bread and Tulips, set in the Campania region of southern Italy. It reminded me of other wonderful films like the Sophia Loren fairy tale C’era Una Volta (More Than a Miracle) and Vittorio De Sica’s masterpiece Miracolo a Milano, not to mention last year’s Se Dio Vuole (God Willing…hmmm, maybe it’s the current political and economic situation, but it sounds like Italians are looking for some inspiration if not divine intervention in the running of the country…). It also reminded me of a whole heap of beautiful songs I haven’t sung for a while, some in Italian and Neapolitan, some in French and some in English, all celebrating the ‘small miracles’ of the everyday.”

Nadia Piave’s voice is a musical paint box that brings to life all the colours and textures of her chosen repertoire, from renaissance and baroque madrigals to Neapolitan serenades and the chansons of the Parisian musette.

A versatile performer and teacher working in all areas of vocal music, Nadia has performed throughout Australia and Europe, and is well-known for her engaging performance style. In Sydney Nadia has performed for Musica Viva, ABC FM, L’Alliance Francaise de Sydney, Italian Cultural Association, Government House House Music series, Café Carnivale, the Blue Mountains Music Society as well as organising her own signature concerts. In 2008 Nadia was named the National Italian-Australian Woman of the Year by the National Italian-Australian Women’s Association.

Nadia has released 2 CDs of her trademark romantic and nostalgic French and Italian repertoire – Rose, and Caffe d’Amore, and CD of ‘world’ Christmas songs

Gino Pengue and Ross Maio are two of Sydney’s most sought-after musicians, excelling in latin, jazz, blues, folk and renaissance style. Together with Ross and Gino, Nadia performs programs which reflect her love of classical and ‘world’ music through the ages; from the cloisters of a baroque church in Venice to the dolce vita Bars of the Via Veneto, from the hues and cries of a bazaar in Persia to a Cabaret in Paris, Nadia and her fellow musicians take you on a romantic and nostalgic journey through an ageless, many-coloured landscape that is song.

Joining the trio is Scott Bevan a musician and songwriter who has just released his debut recording, titled My Old Self. The EP features five of his songs. Scott was joined in the studio by former band mates and, for one song, his friend and singing teacher, Nadia. Scott has taken the long road to recording, having been a journalist for the past 32 years. This will be Scott’s first live performance in more than a quarter of a century, and he’ll perform songs from My Old Self .
