In the face of his prodigious output of consistently fine music, it’s easy to forget his humble beginnings from a boy with a good voice, one of twelve children born to a poor wheelwright and his wife, became the toast of Vienna, then London and then
the known world.
John Bell personifies the spirit of Joseph Haydn in a new multi-faceted piece, skilfully woven with Haydn’s incomparable music performed by the Australian Haydn Ensemble with historically confirmed sources, real letters and romantic re-imaginings.
Haydn Speaks unveils the self-deprecating and funny Haydn recounting his life, commenting on his posthumous reputation and even revealing some bedroom secrets.
The performers: John Bell guest artist, Skye McIntosh concept, Rachel McDonald script and adaptation, Damien Ryan director, Australian Haydn Ensemble comprising Skye McIntosh, Artistic Director, lead violin, Matthew Greco, Karina Schmitz, Daniel Yeadon,
Melissa Farrow.
The program: Selections from Haydn string quartets and symphonies, arr. Salomon.
