Avital And Sollima Return To Australia For National Tour With Music Viva

Musica Viva Australia welcomes back to Australia both world-renowned mandolinist Avi Avital and his good friend and esteemed Italian cellist Giovanni Sollima, touring nationally from 20th September to 8th October.
The unusual combination of instruments creates a rich musical landscape, with world roots in he program entitled Mediterranean
Avital and Sollima will use words and music to present four centuries of culture from opposite sides of the sea. The concert will encapsulate traditional Salento, Bulgarian, Turkish, Sephardic and Macedonian works, along with Sollima performing one of his own
improvisations as well as Tarantella orientale from composer Eliodoro Sollima (Sollima’s father). Included in the program are Baroque sonatas from Italian legends Scarlatti and Castello and a 17th-century canzona by Frescobaldi.
