March 2 @ 7:30 pm
Australian composer, show creator and refugee advocate Chloé Charody presents Stories That Must be Heard, which premieres two of her statement works, Limbo, a violin sonata and Truth in the Cage, a song cycle. It is a unique concept in performance which combines circus, opera and classical music.
Limbo is a new violin sonata by Charody written specifically for the unique acrobatic skill set of violin virtuoso Sonja Schebeck. She performs this with acrobat Josh Frazer in in trhis cutting-edge interdisciplinary work which features acrobatics, cyr wheel and duo unicycle. The sonata careens through anger, frustration, fantasy and escape, exploding with one of the greatest weapons against oppression: hope.
Truth in the Cage is a new song cycle by Charody based on the poems of Mohammad Ali Maleki who was held for ten years in detention on Manus Island, Whilst in detention, Maleki wrote these poems which Charody has set to music, performed by the American acrobatic soprano Caitlin Redding.
The tour takes in the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Westen Sydney (24 February), the Adelaide Fringe (Parks Theatre Adelaide, 29 February) and Sydney (3Danks, Waterloo 2 March).
