Karen Gomyo Performs Dvořák’s Violin Concert With The Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Canadian violinist Karen Gomyo performs Dvořak’s Violin Concerto as part of her 2024 Australasia tour with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Paired with this Slavic masterpiece is Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 2.
Conducted by Australian conductor Daniel Carter, currently music director of Landestheater Coburg, Germany and a former assistant to Simone Young, Carter returns to the Sydney Symphony for the first time since 2015 to lead these concerts.
Gomyo has appeared alongside the world’s finest orchestras from the New York Philharmonic to the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. A passionate soloist and chamber musicians, Gomyo’s performing coleagues include Olli Mustonen, Leif Ove Andsnes, James Ehnes, Emmanuel Pahud, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, and guitarist Ismo Eskelinen with whom she has recorded the duo album “Carnival” on Bis Records. She is also a champion of the Nuevo Tango music of Astor Piazzolla.
Born in Tokyo, Karen began her musical career in Montréal and New York, She studied under the legendary pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School before continuing her studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and New England Conservatory. Karen also participated as violinist, host, and narrator in a documentary film produced by NHK Japan about Antonio Stradivarius called The Mysteries of the Supreme Violin, which was broadcast worldwide on NHK WORLD.
