Karin Schaupp & Flinders Quartet Tour For Musica Viva
February 18, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - February 20, 2023 @ 7:00 pm
Musica Viva presents classical guitarist Karin Schaupp & Flinders Quartet on tour around Australia from 18 February to 9 March 2023. The Flinders Quartet line-up will include Musica Viva’s Artistic Director of Competitions, Wilma Smith.
The centrepiece of this concert is a new work from composer and former Musica Viva Australia Artistic Director, Carl Vine. In 2019, when Paul Kildea took over the role of Artistic Director, he asked his predecessor to create a new work, commissioned by a longstanding audience member wishing to immortalise the joyous memory of her late daughter. Schaupp and the Flinders Quartet will premiere this celebration of life and music.
The program (with the exception of the Adelaide concert) includes Southern Cross Dreaming by Australia’s Richard Charlton, Imogen Holst’s Phantasy Quartet, and contrasting works for guitar and strings from three very different Italians, ending with two movements from Boccherini’s fiery Fandango.
The program:
CARULLI Guitar Concerto in A Major, Op. 8/ CHARLTON Southern Cross Dreaming (2007)/ CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO Guitar Quintet, Op. 143
VINE Endless for Guitar & String Quartet (2021)*/ HOLST Phantasy Quartet (1928)/ BOCCHERINI Guitar Quintet in D Major, G. 448 (mvts III and IV)
