Max Richter In Sydney For Ambient Orchestra
June 3, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 pm
Max Richter, the pianist, composer and new-classical polymath returns to Sydney to perform Ambient Orchestra as part of VIVID 2023. Richter is joined by conductor Matthew Lynch and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for this cutting-edge sonic exploration of the orchestra as a medium for ambient music.
Performed live for only the second time following its London premiere last year, Ambient Orchestra avoids electronics for an orchestra to create a suite of music describes by the composer as “as a space to reflect on ideas and feelings.” The program, which features British soprano Grace Davidson, will include selections from Testament, The Waves, Dream 19 from SLEEP, Opus 2020, Arbenita and Exiles, all making their Australian premieres.
Max Richter was born in Germany and grew up in London. He is a classically-trained composer who has captivated global audiences with his crossover style in post-minimalism, ambient music and the avant-garde. Richter is the world’s most-streamed classical artist, an innovator of form, and a tireless human rights advocate. His work includes modern classics like The Blue Notebooks (2004) and his 2012 reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. He has also composed the soundtrack to acclaimed films and television series like My Brilliant Friend, Taboo and Ad Astra.
