Musica Viva Presents A World Premiere And A New Arrangement For Chamber Ensemble
May 10, 2021 @ 7:00 pm
Konstantin Shamray, the Russian-born, Adelaide-based pianist, will team up with 21 extraordinary string players from the Australian National Academy of Music Orchestra this April and May for a national tour under the auspices of Musica Viva. Led by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Sophie Rowell and joined by violinist and Musica Viva FutureMaker Harry Ward, the tour showcases Shamray’s sterling musicianship and the combined power of the piano and chamber orchestra.
The centrepiece of this program is a dazzling orchestration of Mahler’s Piano Quartet by Ward, who breathes new life into Mahler’s sole surviving instrumental chamber work. Perfectly complementing the quartet will be three powerhouse works: the Australian premiere of Estonian composer Mihkel Kerem’s Lamento; Tchaikovsky’s popular Serenade for Strings; and Schnittke’s Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra.
For those unable to attend the concert, Musica Viva invites you to enjoy the beauty of live chamber music without leaving your home with the live streamed concert on Saturday 15 May at 7pm AEST. Learn more here.
