Phoenix Collective Plays Korngold, Mozart And Brahms
December 18, 2021 @ 2:30 pm
Phoenix Collective, present their final concerts of the year, a collection of brilliant chamber music for violin and piano, performed by Phoenix Collective’s Artistic Director, violin Dan Russell and pianist Dr Edward Neeman (Juilliard/ ANU).
The program includes Eric Wolfgang Korngold’s quirky and not often performed Much ado about Nothing. This work was orchestrated from
full score to violin and piano in record time by the composer himself, so as to extend the run of a Shakspearian theatrical production in 1920, for which he also played the piano part.
Followed by music from Mozart’s more sorrowful side, one of the few works written in a minor key, E minor which some believe hints at the death of his mother. Finally, they play Brahms’ Sonata in G major, full of warmth, tenderness and reflection.
