Salut! Baroque performs The New World, a captivating program of baroque music from the Old and New Worlds.
Inspiration flowed between Spanish and South American composers, resulting in an innovative blend of exotic harmonies, rhythms and distinctive styles such as flamenco. With the added spice of plucked instruments and percussion, cultural boundaries were redefined to create enticing compositions of great beauty, colour and mood.
Enjoy music by Hidalgo, Durón, de Murcia, Fernandes, de Araujo & Zipoli performed by the ensemble including soprano Susannah Lawergren, recorder players Sally Melhuish & Canberrabaroque violinists Stan Kornel, John Ma & Bridgitte Holden, baroque viola player Stephen Freeman, bass violinist Tim Blomfield, Simon Martyn-Ellis playing the theorbo, guitarist George Wills, percussionist Jack Peggie percussion and harpsichordist Monika Kornel.
Performance in Canberra on Friday 12 August 2022, 7.30pm, Albert Hall, Commonwealth Avenue.
