Sydney Chamber Choir Heirs & Rebels
September 29 @ 3:00 pm
The Sydney Chamber Choir conducted by Sam Allchurch with narrator John Gaden celebrates the beauty of the English choral tradition in a concert called Heirs & Rebels, containing an array of sacred and secular Romantic masterpieces. Drawing inspiration from the simplicity of the Renaissance while revelling in a rich new harmonic landscape, this is music that opens up whole worlds of emotion.
As well as presenting the world premiere of a new work by Australian composer Harry Sdraulig, the program promises to deliver a treasury of choral music from soaring and graceful, to tender and ecstatic. It includes Stanford’s The Blue Bird and Elgar’s Lux aeterna, Imogen Holst’sA Hymne to Christ, Gustav Holst’s Nunc dimittis and Finzi’s rapturous love song My Spirit Sang All Day. As well, there is Vaughan Williams’ Agnus Dei, Master of the Queens’s Music, Judith Weir’s Love Bade Me Welcome, Parry’s Songs of Farewell and Tavener’s transcendent Song for Athene.
The concert will also be livestreamed on .
