SUMMARY:Sydney Chamber Choir Presents Mozart's Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Sydney Chamber Choir conducted by Artistic Director Sam Allchurch performs Mozart’s Requiem\, one of the classical cannon’s most celebrated and profound choral works. The concert will also be live-streamed on Australian Digital Concert Hall. \nThis first concert of the choir’s 2024 season features the full choir\, accompanied by the instrumentalists of the Muffat Collective and soloists Celeste Lazarenko soprano\, Helen Sherman mezzo-soprano\, Richard Butler tenor and David Greco bass. \nMozart’s Requiem is a deeply moving piece of genius\, beauty and profound humanity. The composer’s final act of creation\, written in the face of death itself\, the Requiem transcends fear and despair to affirm the power of life and hope. It’s one of the greatest works ever written for choir\, bursting with passion\, drama and immense tenderness: a transformative experience both to sing and to hear. \nAlongside the Requiem is Mozart’s simple yet sublime Ave verum corpus and keeping company with Mozart in this concert are J.S. Bach and contemporary Australian composer Iain Grandage with two contrasting visions of our place in the universe: the irresistible joy of Bach’s Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied and Grandage’s tender humanist prayer to nature and innocence\, Why Are We Here? \nRead our review of Sydney Chamber Choir’s 2023 Winter Nights concert. \nThe performers: Sydney Chamber Choir/ Sam Allchurch\, Conductor/ The Muffat Collective/ Celeste Lazarenko\, Soprano / Helen Sherman\, Mezzo-soprano/ Richard Butler\, Tenor / David Greco\, Bass \nThe program: Bach: Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied/ Iain Grandage: Why Do We Exist?/Mozart: Ave verum corpus/ Mozart: Requiem\nTickets $50-$95 (concession $30-$85) \nBookings \n
