SUMMARY:Synergy Percussion Presents Two Australian Premieres In Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Synergy Percussion presents Assembly \, a program curated by Synergy’s dynamic new artistic director\, Rebecca Lloyd-Jones featuring works by female composers that push the limits of contemporary percussion. \nIncluded are Australian premieres from Elizabeth Jigalin and Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh and pieces by Inti Figgis-Vizueta and Unusk Chin. At the heart of the performance stands the 1977 work Alanbiq by the Australian composer Moya Henderson. Last performed in 1985\, this remarkable piece gives audiences a chance to hear Henderson’s unique hand-crafted instrument\, the Alemba. \nInvented by Henderson herself\, the Alemba is a triumphant combination of music\, design and science and is rightfully part of the Powerhouse Museum’s permanent collection. Henderson says “Developing the Alemba took quite a long time\, and it went through many iterations – what you see now is the 3rd prototype!” \nReceiving their Australian premieres in Assembly are Sydney-based composer\, Elizabeth Jigalin’s\, Tempus Fugit (Time Flies) for four bass drums and found objects. Jigalin’s concept is that each percussionist has a ‘clock of objects’ that are played throughout the work. These are a combination of traditional percussion instruments and everyday objects. \nAssembly celebrates women’s creative voices center stage\, promising an exhilarating fusion of tradition and boundary-defying sonic journeys through percussion! \nTickets are available now.
